Some things I realized was that without a clear understanding of how the admin user affects the software according to the settings, it can get a bit confusing as to why some data is not logged such as repeated hits by the same person or a goal conversion.

So I think user manuals with diagrams will be very helpful, even though the software is very easy to use. Later I hope to produce videos but I think these are better for introducing the concepts of the software and for promotional purposes.

Most of our scripts make use of this system of URL re-writing. Here is a typical .htaccess file that we may implement:

Then the rule activates the real URL: mysite.com/dt/download.php?id=game

This runs the download.php script and passes the id parameter to the script.

The "$1" means the first parameter that is enclosed by the brackets in the pattern.

The [L] tells the server that this is the last rule to process if it got matched.

The next rule is for the Affiliate Link Manager software where we transform search engine friendly URLs to those suitable for use with the Affiliate Link Manager script.

It may seem complicated, but this code is a simple cut and paste to a text file that you name .htaccess and upload to your hosting. Then, as long as the scripts are installed in the given folders (/dt and /lm), the URL re-writing should just work transparently.

So far I have released the Download Tracker software which is a PHP script to allow you to track downloads of your digital products and offer clean, simple URLs for the download links without revealing the locations of your uploads.

Very soon, I will introduce the Affiliate Link Manager software. This script is used to cloak affiliate links which means the links can look like normal links on the web.

Also, referrer data such as keywords are hidden from the offer page. This is so that affiliate companies cannot steal your Ad campaigns by knowing what keywords are driving your traffic. Also, you can funnel the clicks via a remote site that hides the original source of the visitor.

In an age where business practices are becoming ever more competitive and ruthless, tools like this are important for the small business to protect their hard work and preserve profits.

The tracker also logs the click data for later analysis and can trigger goal capture scripts for use with optimization and tracking tools.

So I am sure many people will love this tool and I look forward to providing it soon.
